As for The Used, they were forced to drop dates from the June and July Warped Tour 2007 as front man Bert McCracken had to undergo vocal chord surgery. The doctors recommended that Bert abstain from singing for a period of five weeks. Next on their docket, tour dates have been announced for a fall tour running from early September until the band’s departure for International Taste of Chaos in October. Also, the band will headline the inaugural “Get a Life Tour,” sponsored by Taste of Chaos founder Kevin Lyman, which is to tour college campuses in Spring 2008 with a career fair in the afternoon and a concert at night.
Notable appearances in the CONFRONT’s pages during those two months were MuteMath, Bloc Party, Aiden and of course another favorite band, Evaline.
June and July and were busy months here at CONFRONT with no less than twelve interviews including cover artists, Saosin and Cobra Starship respectively. Bands like Cobra Starship, Cold War Kids, Marianas Trench, From Autumn to Ashes, Faber Drive and our current sweethearts Strata definitely stood out but Saosin certainly made the most impact. So much so in fact that for months Christine and I anticipated the July 14th show they were scheduled to perform in Montreal. We were lucky enough to interview front man Cove Reber again. Here is what he had to say about Saosin’s plans in the coming months.
“I think that we are going to surpass what we have done so far. (…) We are on our first official headlining tour right now and it’s pretty cool that we’ve as successful as we have.”
“We are looking forward to Projekt Revolution ’cause we know all the bands. So we are gonna be hanging out with some of our best friends everyday and it’s gonna be awesome. The shows might just be the worst shows ever for us but regardless if they are – which I don’t think they will be – we are going to be hanging out with friends so it’s like who cares. We’re hanging out having a good time.”
Make sure to read the entire interview which will go live on September 20th.
As the August ‘Shiny Toy Guns’ issue comes to a close and we launch into a new year with its new challenges and rewards, I am urged to look back and remember all the hard work the entire CONFRONT Crew (past and present) has put in; Awesome Andy our Web Designer extraordinaire, SteveK our resident album review, Stephanie the Music Chick our live music reviewer and all around music reference on two feet, Judith, Sophie and Vanessa who have interviewed bands they liked and some they didn’t but always managed to bring forth the interesting and the positive, Dave and Roxane who help us put out the best product we can every week thanks to their language skills, and finally our new additions, Anna in the graphics department and Ty who manages the CONFRONT Entourage, a project we hope to develop further in the coming months.
Over the past year, Christine and I have crossed paths with many people who have asked us for advice; music aficionados who wish to communicate through words; aspiring photographers who express their stage visions through lenses; and everyday people who wish to start a business themselves but don’t really know where to start. The best advice I can give is to surround yourselves with people who are qualified and be driven. It’s all trial and error.
Twelve months ago I would have never dreamed that this project could have become so important to so many people and for that we are very grateful. We have so much in store for the next year and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.
