Up-and-coming energetic rockers are probably the best words to use when describing a local Ontario, Canada band that goes by the name of Socialight.

Originating from St. Catharines, this indie band is slowly but surely on the rise to potential stardom.

When asked to describe their music, lead singer/guitarist Robbie Turner said, “Musical sex; Flirting and foreplay; A lot of sweating and heavy breathing throughout; Vigorous banging and screaming in the end.”

They may not be as well known as other Canadian bands such as Nickelback or Mobile but with their new album ‘Change is Everything’ in stores, the rotation of their first single/video “Broken” on MuchLoud, their constant self-promotion on websites such as MySpace.com and a potential cross-country tour with Social Code, another crucial step is being taken in order to get the word out.

With all the touring Socialight does, you begin to wonder if they ever get discouraged and if they have anything or anyone who inspire them to keep going.

What would they like to accomplish over all? What would they like to do if this were to end tomorrow?

“I wish only to be known for what I do because I do it well. I want to leave something behind me when I go” says Socialight’s bassist known as J.A.M.E.S. (a.k.a. “The Rat Master”).

When it comes to originality, it’s hard for bands to find ways to differentiate themselves from all the other struggling musical talent in Canada.

“We are the only band where all four members have 10 inch penises. It’s in the Guinness book, look it up” jokes Robbie. “I think we’re different because we stay grounded. We talk to our fans all the time…we are constantly reaching out to them, and our live show is usually pretty intense.”

Being different is a key factor in the music business and with so many indie bands on the market these days, it’s what gets you noticed.

Does Socialight have any advice to bands starting out fresh?

“Go to shows and meet as many people as you can. It’s all about networking and creating relationships. Work your ass off on the internet, book tons of shows, and believe in what you do regardless of what you hear from critics,” advises Robbie.

J.A.M.E.S goes on to add, ” Have fun with it, the chances of it becoming your job are microscopic and if it does, you totally want it to be something you enjoy or you won’t last. It’ll drive you nuts!”

The demeanour of all four Socialight members displays down-to-earth attitudes and a real passion for the job.
Guitarist Corey as well as Mark who is the backbone of the band playing the drums are just as passionate about what they do. They work hard for what they get and they are sincere when greeting fans of all ages.
Thanks to the internet’s domination of the world, the band is able to reach all corners of the planet and is gaining fans from British Columbia to Germany.

When asked if the current MySpace.com phenomenon has helped the band, Robbie responded “Definitely because MySpace friends are loyal and the CUUUURAZIEST!”

Playing and/or touring with the likes of the Voodoo GlowSkulls, Good Charlotte, Blink182, Mobile and most recently another up-and-coming Canadian band, Social Code, they are well on their way to becoming Canada’s next top thing.

This is definitely not the last time you or Canada will hear of Robbie, Corey, Mark and J.A.M.E.S. as they will slowly but surely take charge of the music charts!
