CONFRONT: How’s it going?!
JEREMY: SO good. You can’t beat this weather!
CONFRONT: I know right? It’s perfect!
JEREMY: I know, I was so excited when I woke up, I was like “it’s hot… YES!” It’s hot and there’s water *points to the lake*… I kind of want to jump in the water but I just heard it smells, I don’t know…
CONFRONT: Yeah, don’t jump in the water here, it’s kind of sketchy
JEREMY: I wish I would have known that before because the last time I was here I DID jump in the water, I was swimming in this river here!
CONFRONT: Well it’s a little polluted but you survived!
JEREMY: Well, you know, maybe that’s exactly what happened to me. Maybe that’s what’s wrong.
CONFRONT: We were all wondering, and now we know.
JEREMY: *laughing* There it is!
CONFRONT: So how’s Warped been so far?
JEREMY: So good, this is like our third show and we’re going to be on for another 3 shows after today. We’re just really excited you know? We chose to come and be on the Warped tour first of all because we love it, and it’s like summer camp for us.
CONFRONT: Everybody is saying that this year, those exact words- summer camp!
JEREMY: That’s because that’s exactly what it is, in short! And the second reason was because the location, we wanted to come here in Canada. There are places we haven’t been in a little. We’re in the writing process for a new record right now so we might not be able to come here for a little while. So we definitely wanted to come here and show some love before we get started.
CONFRONT: Cool. Last time you guys were here, you opened for No Doubt. How was that experience?
JEREMY: It was SO amazing. I mean, it’s one thing when you get a tour with those kind of people; you really don’t think that with big bands like that you’re going to get much time to hang out and talk, but they really spent a lot of time with us. The tour itself was 2 and half months long, so we really got involved with them, their families, and they invited us to everything! It was a lot of fun great experience and learning experience for us too.
CONFRONT: I bet. What really memorable moment has stood out for you in your career?
JEREMY: Oh, wow there are so many things! I mean, we’ve been nominated for Grammys 3 times and like every single time we go… I mean, we still haven’t WON one yet, but still! Every time we go it’s just as exciting. We got to do a co-headlining tour with Jimmy Eat World, and just so many of our favorite bands. Every day has been something new, it’s awesome.
CONFRONT: Cool! Coming back to Warped a bit, are you getting used to the porta potties and that kind of thing? The lack of showers?
JEREMY: The hot boxes! *laughing* You know, it’s just one of those things that makes you feel like you’re on Warped tour. If it’s too clean, you don’t feel like you’re on Warped. I guess that’s another good thing about us being on Warped only for a week!
CONFRONT: *laughs* You mean you guys don’t have to rough it out TOO much?
JEREMY: Yeah! You can NOT shower for the whole time if you really want and be like “Oh! I’m going home now.”
CONFRONT: You just have to stand a little bit farther back from everyone each day!
JEREMY: *laughs* Exactly! Like each time just take one step back… Exactly.
CONFRONT: Have you guys learned any tips from roughing it out on the road all these years?
JEREMY: Any tips… You know baby wipes? They make this thing that I haven’t seen in a lot of places and it’s called ‘Baby Wipe Bath’ and it’s like a towel that’s this big *stretches arms out about one meter* and there’s so much soap put in it, it’s ridiculous! So… it’s KIND OF like a shower!
CONFRONT: What! Do they come in like… really big packages or something?!
JEREMY: Yeah, they come in a pack all folded up and you’re like *motions pulling out a really big towel from a small package* and it’s just super soapy! And of course you’ve got to bring rollerblades, those are key.
CONFRONT: Or like a bike, or something.
JEREMY: Yeah, something to be able to cruise around on!
CONFRONT: You guys are parked really far today I’m guessing?
JEREMY: Oh my gosh, like a mile away! What’s going on?!
CONFRONT: I don’t know, it was like that last year too!
JEREMY: The year before that wasn’t like that…?!
CONFRONT: No not the year before that, I think they moved it these last two years that’s why.
JEREMY: So how close are we to where it was 2 years ago? It was on the same strip right, but further down maybe? Or was it here?
CONFRONT: No it wasn’t here it was like, when you get out of the metro/subway it used to be RIGHT there, but for fans now it’s like a 15 minute walk down here. It’s crazy.
JEREMY: Yeah, well that’s the main reason that this is the first time we’re coming out in this direction today, because people were like “it’s about a mile and a half that way!” I woke up, got out of bed and was like “Ummmm, no thanks!”
CONFRONT: I don’t blame you, no worries! Do you guys have any pre-show rituals?
JEREMY: Well, we always have a little prayer, we always jump around; get the blood flowing. I always run on the walls, somewhere.
CONFRONT: Oh yeah, wall running huh?
JEREMY: Oh yeah, it’s just one of those things that like, even if there isn’t a wall and it’s a tent, I’ll definitely… *pretends to run up a wall* wall ride! Wall rides are pretty important.
CONFRONT: You’ll just go for it anyway? Oh that’s cool.
JEREMY: Yeah, always before the show… *laughing*
CONFRONT: *laughs* What’s next for you guys? You’re working on a new album you said earlier?
JEREMY: Yeah, we’re going to finish these next three shows on Warped, ending in Cleveland which for some reason we have a special connection with Warped Cleveland. We came on last year for that one show in Cleveland, so we’re excited about that. Then we’ll have a couple weeks off, we’re going to do one other show in San Diego, and then we’re going to do places like Hong Kong, Jakarta, Indonesia, Singapore, and end the year in Hawaii!
CONRONT: That’s amazing! Ending your year in Hawaii, it can’t get better than that.
JEREMY: Right?! Exactly. From then on we’re just going to be writing, writing, writing. We want to go into this new record- when we go in to record- we want to go into the whole thing a lot more prepared than we usually are. Normally we just write 11 songs, record 11 songs and that’s how any are on the album. What we really want to do is go in there with tons of stuff to have options and time to really plan out stuff and make it happen. Just spend a little bit more time on it. So we’re excited about that, for sure.
CONFRONT: Cool! Are you guys planning on changing your sound at all?
JEREMY: You know, change is good. You don’t want to release the same record two, or three or four times you know?! That’s why… *gets distracted by this really small car thing being driven by another band and bursts out laughing* That is AWESOME, how funny are those?!
CONFRONT: How great are those, seriously?!
JEREMY: Anyways. You know, we don’t want to change, but at the same time we want to get all our ideas that we’ve had since forever written out in song form and just get rid of them. You see what I’m saying? Just get it out of our head so we can all start fresh and have all new stuff. And you know what? That’s what makes music new- fresh ideas, not just a fresh new take. It’s still going to sound like Paramore and it’s still going to be us and our style of music and all that stuff. We just definitely want to have a FRESH sound.
CONFRONT: Yeah, you guys are growing as a band.
JEREMY: Exactly. Not only that, since all the stuff that happened not too long, us and our crew and our whole tour family have just been so happy and excited and anxious to really get out here and do this. I’m telling you, as far as lyrically, Hayley wants to make it more of a happy record- still hopeful like all of our previous stuff, but just happier ideas to it. That’s the spot we’re at right now.
CONFRONT: Awesome. Well thank you very much
JEREMY: Thank YOU very much
CONFRONT: Have a good show later, I’ll definitely be watching!
JEREMY: Awesome, well have a good time too!
