Show Review: Marilou Album Release 24-04-12

Review by Marie-Lou Plante

I was, on April 24th, at l’Astral, for the “60 Thoughts a Minute” launch album party. For those who do not know whatI am talking about, it is the first album launched by French Canadian singer Marilou, who just celebrated her 21st birthday.

Almost every media outlet was there for the event: TVA, CKOI, The Beat (92,5), a lot of photographers,  her label and so on. On stage, which was a rather small scene, we could see a piano, several guitars,a  bass and many posters of the singer.

While I was looking around me I observed many people in suits or slightly chic dress wear for the occasion, but I was wearing my leather jacket so I felt like I stood out a little bit.

I grew poorer after buying myself a drink and I went up on the balcony to observe the socialite fauna. About ten minutes later her manager stepped on the stage to greet everybody. We learned he was her manager since she was eleven years old as well as her label Sony Music.

Everyone clapped as the lights turned off and Marilou sat at the piano; her smile as brilliant as her shirt. She begun with “60 thoughts a Minute” but she also performed “Shot down by a Smile” and “The Blame” among others. A few tears of joy were shed but many smiles could be seen on her face.

Since she first started out Marilou has evolved in her music style and her new album, “60 thoughts a minute” is her first album as a songwriter/composer. We wish her good luck for a her first big step towards what expect to be a long and successful career.
