Show Review: The Ting Tings at Corona Theatre 04-07-12

This Saturday night was really packed with good shows in every venue in Montreal. Because I’ve already saw the Pretty Reckless back in 2011, I decided to go see the British duo The Ting Tings.

The show started with the first song from their new record Sounds from Nowheresville, silence. So Katie White enters the stage and asked people to be quiet, which is funny and unusual. After a couple of songs I realized that The Ting Tings incorporate a lot of different styles into their songs. At one point you have a jazzy song after that a more electro song mixed with punk vibes and even a little rap. It could look a little bit confusing, but somehow it was really cohesive and well balanced.

It always impressed me to see two people doing the job of a five members’ band on stage.  Jules De Martino started a song with his guitar to finish it on the drums while Katie White was taking the synth then the guitar… and let me say that Taylor Momsen wasn’t the only rocker chick in town that night! Katie really was a super strong presence on stage and really likes to throw all her instruments on floor when she’s finisedh with it! Unfortunately even though she really tried to make people dance and scream, the crowd didn’t seem to be as much into it as her. People started to wake up towards the end when they started playing Shut Up and Let Me Go.

Obviously they finished the show with their first hit that’s Not My Name which I felt wasn’t really the best song to finish with. I think a higher tempo song would have been better to end the night. Still it’s already been 2 days and I still have songs from The Ting Tings stuck into my head!
