Album Review: Dead Silence by Billy Talent

by

Dead Silence is the 4th album of the Canadian band Billy Talent. This record stays close to what they have done previously, though we can sense a desire of change starting with the CD’s title; it’s not Billy Talent IV- breaking the streak of past album names; Billy Talent I, II and III- and the subjects on the CD are different too. Perseverance, you have to keep your head up; it’s a big change from the rage of their 1st album and Line and Sinker, for example.  The subjects covered make me think of A Day to Remember’s What Separates Me From You.  Ben Kowalewicz’ voice is still as powerful, but you feel there’s more maturity; the screaming is dosed and not used as profusely.  They still have their own sound but we sense an evolution; from the place of the bass and the drum in the songs, to the themes covered on the album.

Verdict: Just like a Pokémon, their evolution is a success!  The new fans and old fans will both enjoy this CD.  We can argue it won’t be an album as full of hits as Billy Talent II which included huge successes such as Red Flag, Surrender, Fallen Leaves and Devil in a Midnight Mass, but this CD is still the bomb!

You need to download: Viking Death March, Man Alive! and Dead Silence
