Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban are officially joining the judging panel on American Idol for the show’s 12th season. They will be sitting alongside Mariah Carey, who was confirmed as a judge earlier this summer, and returning judge Randy Jackson.
Executive producer Simon Fuller said in a press release: “With the exciting addition of Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, alongside Randy Jackson, ‘American Idol’s’ star power has never been so great.”
The judges will be filming the first set of auditions today in New York City. Auditions will also be held in Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, San Antonio, Baton Rouge and Oklahoma City.
The series will return in January 2013, once Fox’s other singing competition, “The X Factor”, wraps up.
