Today the music world has suffered a great loss. Rock legend David Bowie has passed away at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer.
A statement appeared on the singer’s Facebook page early today, revealing that Bowie had passed away yesterday:
January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.
The singer’s last album Black Star was released two days before his death, on his 69th birthday. Oddly enough, the track “Lazarus” opens with the line “Look up here, I’m in Heaven!” Bowie also co-wrote the musical Lazarus currently playing at the New York Theater Workshop in New York City.
Bowie, known for hits like “Life On Mars,” “Space Oddity,” “Fame,” “Under Pressure,” and countless others, was an original and unique artist that set the stage for so many acts to follow. He will be greatly missed.
R.I.P David Bowie. You will never be replaced.
