Heart live at the Bellcentre – March 21st 2016

by

Tonight I got to live my life long dream. Something I never thought would ever happen, but there I was sitting in the Bell centre in Montreal, Quebec watching Joan Jett and Heart preform. Yeah, you heard me. Joan Jett and Heart on the same stage. On the same night.
Sadly due to lack of communication and direction I missed the first band of the night, The Mandevilles, and the first three songs of Joan Jett’s set. Despite the rocky start to my night that put me in a slightly bad mood, I had to remind myself that Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were preforming right in front of my eyes, something I’ve wished for ever since I was a little girl, no way in hell was I gonna be in a sour mood for this show. Their set was a mix of The Runaways songs, also full of her popular covers such as Crimson & Clover. Light of day, a song written by Bruce Springsteen for the 1987 movie with the same name, made an appearance in the set as well. And finishing off a tight set with none other than I Hate Myself For Loving You, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts get a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd.
And just like that my mood went from bad to over the moon in 0 to 60 seconds. And it was about to get even better with Heart coming up on stage next. I was also the photographer for tonight’s show so I got to witness the first three songs of their set up close and personal. Opening the show with Magic Man I couldn’t believe that this was real life. The Wilson sisters owned the stage with Nancy’s flawless guitar playing and Ann’s powerhouse voice. As the first few notes of Alone started to play I could feel everyone around me waiting for the high notes just to see if Ann could still reach them. Well she DID hit them and THEN some. Getting her a standing ovation from the crowd And just like Ann Wilson’s voice, that didn’t age a day, Nancy’s guitar playing was effortless and beautiful to witness live as she played the famous intro solo of Crazy on You with her beautiful acoustic guitar getting everybody on their feet. And just when we though the show was done, they surprise us with a three song encore; all three being Led Zeppelin songs. Proving to us just how accurate the statement “the female version of Robert Plant” is.
Tonight was something I dreamed about for years and now that it’s happened I can’t believe it did. If Heart is going to be in a place near you in the near future I suggest you buy a ticket and you go because it’s definitely worth it. Trust me.
