Montreal native, Laurel Sprengelmeyer, known best as Little Scream, has just released a new song called “Dark Dance.” The track is the newest to be released off her upcoming sophomore record, Cult Following, set for release on May 6. Reminiscent of 80s dance music, “Dark Dance” was inspired by Margaret Atwood and Leonard Cohen’s “I Can’t Forget.” About the song, Little Scream says:
one night I found myself dancing alone down an alleyway, singing in the dark. The further I walked down it, the further I sunk into my memory until I felt like I might actually step into my past when I emerged on the other side. This song was born there, it starts in the present and each verse moves further into the past. The main loop in the song is from an iPhone recording I made — it’s a very lo-fi gentle thing that I got really attached to, everything else was built around it.
Little Scream has several tour dates throughout North America following the release of Cult Following. There are a handful of dates in May with Land Of Talk, including a stop in her hometown of Montreal on May 11, and Toronto on May 12. A few solo dates have been announced throughout the summer, with more to be added in the coming weeks.
