Okay, this one may seem like it’s coming from left-field for many of you. But the fact of the matter is that this song is catchy as hell, and there is absolutely no shame in loving show tunes. Following its record-breaking 16 nominations at the Tony Awards, Hamilton has dominated the Broadway scene, as well as the fans who are desperate to see the show. With tickets going for thousands of dollars, there is no doubt as to why this show is so popular; Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit show incorporates two of my favorite things: history and hip-hop. By retelling a story that many of us probably dozed off during in high school history class, Miranda has shown the world that history doesn’t have to be boring, and that many past problems are still present today.
“Satisfied” tells the story of Angelica Schuyler, who historically may have had an affair with Alexander Hamilton, despite his marriage to her sister, Eliza. This song describes the strength of sisterly love and the mistake of judging too quickly, and Tony Award winner Reneé Elise Goldsberry spits straight fire on this track. Clever and quick raps, mixed with sheer vocal talent from Goldsberry and the rest of the cast, makes this song worthy of being on current radio stations.
