Selena Gomez made a surprising announcement yesterday. After travelling around the world for her Revival Tour for the last few months, the young singer is taking a break to focus on her health, meaning — unfortunately for fans — this is the end of her tour. Selena spoke with People Magazine about her struggle with lupus and her decision to cancel the rest of her tour dates.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” the singer told People Magazine in a statement. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.”
“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues,” she continues.
Selena first announced her lupus diagnosis last fall, telling Billboard she underwent chemotherapy during a break she took amidst her Stars Dance tour in 2013.
“That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” she told Billboard. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes.’ But I was angry I even felt the need to say that. It’s awful walking into a restaurant and having the whole room look at you, knowing what they’re saying. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
We wish Selena the best, and hope she can get the help she needs!
