Surprise, Little Monsters — the new Lady Gaga track has arrived!
After three excruciatingly long years since her last pop record, ARTPOP, Gaga is back with her new single “Perfect Illusion” — and she is ready to take back her spot on the pop scene. She is not playing games!
Co-written and produced by BloodPop, Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker and Mark Ronson (who you might remember from a little known song called “Uptown Funk”), “Perfect Illusion” is a blend of pop and disco, with a heavy dose of rock influence thrown into the mix.
While at first listen, it might not be as immediately enticing as a song like “Just Dance,” by the chorus, you will find yourself belting out “IT WASN’T LAAAAAAAAV!” and pressing the replay button over and over. The singer pulls out her impressive vocal range on this one, pouring out her heart about the perfect illusion of a relationship she thought was love; “I don’t need eyes to see / I felt you touchin’ me / High like amphetamine / Maybe you’re just a dream,” she sings. “Mistaken for love/ It wasn’t love / It was a perfect illusion.”
“It’s some of my favorite music I’ve really ever worked on,” Mark Ronson said about his work with Gaga in an interview last month. “It’s incredible — I love it.”
This is the first taste of Gaga’s upcoming fifth studio album, and we have to say, we’re pretty satisfied — but still starving for more!
“Perfect Illusion” is available now on iTunes.
