Get your tissues ready, a new Sia video has arrived.
The singer, hot off the success of her summer hit “Cheap Thrills,” released the brand new single “The Greatest” today, along with a poignant video in tribute to the Orlando Pulse Nightclub victims.
“The Greatest” was co-directed by Sia and Daniel Askill, with choreography by Ryan Heffington, and of course featuring 13-year-old dance phenomenon Maddie Ziegler, who has became a staple in the singer’s recent videos and live performances.
The video starts with Maddie, cheeks streaked with rainbow tears, surrounded by a group of 49 still bodies in a locked cell. As the music begins, the bodies rise and Maddie breaks the group out of the room.
They explore the dilapidated building while Sia sings “Don’t give up, I won’t give up. I’m free to be the greatest, I’m alive” in the background. The video comes to a chilling end when the group of kids finds themselves in a dark, empty room, disco lights scattered around, bullet holes in the wall — a clear reference to the nightclub shooting that took the lives of 49 LGBT individuals in Orlando. The music fades out, and all we can hear is a ringing sound as the dancers fall to the ground.
The singer has been teasing the new single for the last week, sharing snippets with the hashtag “#weareyourchildren”.
