Kingdom Come

Manchester, England has provided the world with some of the greatest music and musicians in rock and pop history. The Smiths, New Order, Joy Division, James, The Verve, Oasis, Simply Red, The Buzzcocks, the Chemical Brothers and dozens upon dozens of others. Among the legion of musicians from the working-class industrial neighbourhoods, The Doves are also rising, distinguishing themselves and crafting their own brand of Manchester Pop.
The Doves have just put out their fourth studio album, after a four year hiatus. It is a welcome return and an excellent return to form. Outstanding on this album are the opener, “Jetstream”, the title track, “Kingdom of Rust” which delivers a poetic, lyrical tour of the Doves’ home city, and “Winter Hill”, which is my personal favourite off the album. But, all 11 tracks are exceptional.
The Doves spent the last year and a half working on this one, and it shows. This album has been painstakingly crafted, meshing into an album that is an absolute delight.
