City & Colour show Review:

<!–[endif]–>

I walked into the venue at the same time as Attack In Black walked on stage. The venue was pretty much still empty, but it wasn’t long before we could see the people who were outside rushing to get to their seat. 15 minutes later, the sold out St Denis Theater was full.

I did enjoy Attack In Black’s set, but I’m still torn in between saying that either  they didn’t seem that comfortable (a static band) on stage, or if they live in their own bubble. “It’s our first concert” said the bassist. “We have an album … Which is not available here, but that is available somewhere if you want to, if you do look for it” said the singer. I came to the conclusion that both of my guesses were right. Attack In Black’s music is really close to what City & Colour’s is; which is probably the main reason why every City and Colour’s fan stayed and listened to their set.

City & Colour’s set started with a breathtaking cover of Queen’s’ “Mama” done by Dallas’ guitar tech who simply got on stage with his guitar and played the song. The moment the crowd recognized the track, everybody started to sing along, but at some point, we realized that most of the voices coming from the crowd came from the last rows on the floor. It sounded like a choir… Did Dallas’ bring a choir on tour to do the amazing performance? Who knows?

Then Dallas Green arrived on stage with an amazing crowd reaction. The first thing he said was: “In case you are wondering, this just happened. It wasn’t a dream.” referring to the introduction.

This was the beginning of a 1h30 show with a clear crystal voice.

Dallas Green sang most of his latest album with all the well known songs from his first release. He also sang a new song he wrote which was pure City & Colour music as we know it.

Unfortunately, Dallas said it was the last time we will see him in a long time… But the good news is that there is a good reason; his other band, Alexisonfire, will be releasing a new album soon and will be on tour all summer long on the Vans Warped tour.

His current tour isn’t done yet, so if you get a chance, catch him live while you can, because it might take a few years before you can see him perform solo again.
