Happy New Year everyone! The New Frequencies are back and here they are for next week’s upcoming albums, but first a little look on a few things that happened during the holiday season:
Charlotte Gainsbourg – ‘IRM’
Daughter of famous French singer Serge Gainsbourg and actress Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg pulled a brand new record: ‘IRM’, produced by notorious singer/songwriter Beck. It was released in Europe and Canada over the first couple of weeks of December 2009, but will come out in the US and UK on January 26th, 2010. The title track was released as a free download on 9 October 2009. The lead single is “Heaven Can Wait”, a duet with Beck, and was released on 2 November. The music video for “Heaven Can Wait” was directed by Keith Schofield and was released on 19 November 2009. The video for “Heaven Can Wait” was named one of the Top 20 best music videos of 2009 by Spin Magazine.

Ke$ha – ‘Animal’
‘Animal’ is the debut album of American pop singer-songwriter Ke$ha, released January 5, 2010 on RCA Records in the United States. The first single, “Tik Tok” was released to US radio on October 5, 2009. Ke$ha was featured on Flo Rida’s single, “Right Round”. Then it was announced that she had signed with RCA Records through Dr. Luke and was working on her debut album, Animal, which was released on January 5, 2010 in the US. She told DigitalSpy that when it came to her music she wanted to “give people something that brings them joy. There are artists who do more serious acoustic stuff, and I really admire them, but what I want to bring to the table is just fuc*ing fun.”

Goodbye Lhasa De Sela
It is also with great regret that the music scene lost one of its greatest artists this past January st. After 21 months of fighting against breast cancer, Lhasa passed away at her home in Montreal, Canada, leaving her family, friends and thousands of fans worldwide in mourning. If you haven’t discovered Lhasa’s great international talent yet, I certainly encourage you to do so. For more information visit: http://lhasadesela.com/
