Jaydee Bixby, a recent finalist on Canadian Idol, is a very unique young man with an old soul. Here is my sit down interview with this up and coming talent.
CONFRONT: Hi.
JAYDEE: Hi, Happy you are here to do an interview and see the show!
CONFRONT: Happy to be here!!! Ok so let me start by explaining to you what we are. We are an online magazine, it’s called CONFRONT Magazine, our motto is Dare Defy Provoke. We want to Dare to listen, Defy stereotypes and Provoke change, we want our readers to discover many types of music and be open minded to new style they are not used to.
JAYDEE: Like country!
CONFRONT: yeah like country. Ok so let me start with a couple of what we call CONFRONT questions.
JAYDEE: cool.
CONFRONT: ok so what would be the first and the last CD you remember buying?
JAYDEE: well it wasn’t a CD it was a record…
CONFRONT: even better!
JAYDEE: but the last record I bought was an Elvis CD, a gospel one called `How Great Thou Art` and the fist one I got was given to me…
CONFRONT: nice.
JAYDEE: it was a tape of Elvis also… I seem to have a theme here.
CONFRONT: no worries, we love good old classics. The first and last concert you remember attending as a fan??
JAYDEE: First concert I’ve ever attended was Al Jackson and Brad Paisley and the last one I’ve seen a few country people lately… to many to count.
CONFRONT: Never too many right?
JAYDEE: exactly.
CONFRONT: Do you have any guilty pleasures musically?
JAYDEE: wow… well I’m very country so I sing a lot of Elvis all the time and well one time at rehearsal I was jamming with my drummer and as a joke I turned one of my songs into a rap… very funny.
CONFRONT: yeah must have been. Ok of course we have to talk about the Canadian Idol experience… how was this experience to you??
JAYDEE: Well it was an amazing experience, it got me to where I am today you know… they were great they taught me how to deal with media and stuff. They prepared me for the professional side of the industry that’s for sure.
CONFRONT: for sure… but of course you knew a lot about music before going on Idol. You were in a band with your family right?
JAYDEE: Yeah I grew up in music, my parents met in a band and stuff and I grew up, ever since I was little watching them on stage and always wanted to be on stage and sing with them so… by the time I was around 9-10 years old I started singing a couple of songs and then through time I have been in a band since I was 11.
CONFRONT: Last but not least, unfortunately we have not much time left… we ask, what would you want your legacy to be? Jaydee Bixby, 10 years from now??
JAYDEE: Hopefully, I have a lot of examples I look up too, Paul Anka, Tom Jones, they are artists that lasted through the years so…those kinds of guys, I really hope I’ll be able to be here in the long run. I want to be involved in my career.
CONFRONT: Thank you Jaydee, it was a pleasure.
JAYDEE: Thanks to you.
This was my interview with Jaydee Bixby. I’ve had a very good time sitting down with this young man, with a lot of charisma and wit. Let’s wish him a long and great career.
